Salvat Etchart

Salvat Etchart (1924-1985) was a French novelist of Basque peasant descent born near Bordeaux. He moved to Martinique in 1955, where he worked as a farmer and became a fierce critic of neo-colonial society, publishing novels that depicted the island's natural beauty alongside social inequalities.
