About Saleem Haddad

Saleem Haddad is a queer Arab author, filmmaker, and aid worker born in Kuwait City in 1983 to a Lebanese-Palestinian father and an Iraqi-German mother. Press. His debut novel Guapa (2016), exploring a gay man's life in an unnamed Arab country amid political upheaval, won the 2017 Polari First Book Prize and a Stonewall Honor. Press. Educated in Jordan, Canada, and the UK, he has worked with Doctors Without Borders in conflict zones like Yemen, Syria, and Iraq, and lives in Lisbon. Press.
