About Roy Jenkins
Roy Harris Jenkins (1920–2003) was a British politician, biographer, and historian who served as Home Secretary, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and President of the European Commission (1977–1981). Born in Abersychan, Monmouthshire, Wales, he drove key liberal reforms including decriminalization of homosexuality and abortion, and authored acclaimed biographies such as those of Asquith, Gladstone, Churchill, and his autobiography A Life at the Centre. He co-founded the Social Democratic Party and later advised Tony Blair.
