Roy Franklin Nichols (1896–1973) was an American historian specializing in 19th-century U.S. political history, born in Newark, New Jersey. He earned degrees from Rutgers University and Columbia University, taught at Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania (where he served as professor, dean, and vice provost), and held leadership roles including president of the American Historical Association.
