About Ronald Takaki

Ronald Takaki (born April 12, 1939, in Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American historian and academic of Japanese descent who pioneered ethnic studies. American Historical Association. He earned his PhD from UC Berkeley and taught at UCLA and Berkeley, where he developed key programs in Asian American and ethnic studies, authoring notable nonfiction works like Strangers from a Different Shore (1989) and A Different Mirror (1993). UC Academic Senate. His career focused on multicultural American history and challenging racial stereotypes until his retirement in 2003.
