About Roland Dorgelès
Roland Dorgelès (1885-1973), born Roland Lecavelé in Amiens, France, was a French novelist renowned for his World War I novel Les Croix de Bois (Wooden Crosses), which won the Prix Femina and was adapted into a 1932 film. A Montmartre bohemian and prankster before the war, he served in the French infantry and air force, later becoming a member and president of the Académie Goncourt, influencing French literature for decades.
