Robert P. T. Coffin

Robert Peter Tristram Coffin (1892-1955) was an American poet, educator, and writer born on a saltwater farm in Maine. He earned degrees from Bowdoin College, Princeton University, and Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, served in World War I, and taught at Wells College and Bowdoin College, where he was Pierce Professor of English. Best known for winning the 1936 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Strange Holiness, he authored over 40 books including poetry like Saltwater Farm, fiction, and nonfiction such as The Kennebec: Cradle of Americans.
