About Robert Olen Butler

Robert Olen Butler (born 1945) is an American fiction writer whose short-story collection A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1993. His works, including novels like The Alleys of Eden and Perfume River, often draw from his experiences as a U.S. Army translator in Vietnam during 1969-1971. He has taught creative writing at McNeese State University and Florida State University, where he holds the Michael Shaara Chair.
