About Robert Hass
Robert L. Hass (born 1941) is an American poet born in San Francisco, California, renowned for his clear, image-rich poetry drawing from the California landscape and everyday life, as well as translations of Czesław Miłosz and Japanese haiku masters. His notable works include Field Guide (1973), Praise (1979), Time and Materials (2007, winner of the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize), and Sun Under Wood (1996). He served as U.S. Poet Laureate from 1995 to 1997, promoting literacy and ecological awareness, and taught at UC Berkeley.
