About Robert Gittings

Robert William Victor Gittings (1911–1992) was an English writer, biographer, BBC Radio producer, playwright, and poet. He worked as a BBC Radio producer from 1940 to 1963, creating educational broadcasts and programs like Poetry Now and The World of Books, and later served as a research fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge. His notable biographies include John Keats (1968, WH Smith Literary Award), The Older Hardy (1978, James Tait Black Memorial Prize), and Young Thomas Hardy (1975), along with twelve volumes of poetry and several plays.
