About Richard Mabey
Richard Thomas Mabey (born 1941) is an English nature writer and broadcaster known for exploring the intersections of nature and culture. Notable works include Food for Free (1972), Flora Britannica (1996, National Book Award winner), Nature Cure (2005, shortlisted for multiple prizes), and his Whitbread-winning biography of Gilbert White (1986). After studying at Oxford and working as a Penguin editor, he became a full-time writer in 1974, contributing to BBC programs, The Guardian, and serving on the Nature Conservancy Council.
