About Reiko Mori
Reiko Mori (1928–2014) was a Japanese novelist and playwright who began her literary career in the 1950s, publishing poems, stories, and essays under her pen name. She gained prominence with her 1979 novel Mokkingubado no iru machi (The Town with a Mockingbird), which won the prestigious Akutagawa Award, and later wrote works inspired by her travels to Europe, the US, and South Korea, as well as plays and biographies on women's issues. Toward the end of her career, she focused on themes of emancipation and hidden Christians in the Edo period, along with biographies of figures like Sumako Matsui and Yaeko Batchelor.
