About Raphael Patai and Jennifer P. Wing
Raphael Patai (1910-1996) was a Hungarian-born Jewish scholar who became a prominent American anthropologist, historian, and folklorist, specializing in Jewish culture and Middle Eastern studies. Born in Budapest, he emigrated to Palestine in 1933, earned doctorates from Hebrew University and others, founded the Palestine Institute of Folklore and Ethnology, and settled in the US in 1947, becoming a citizen in 1952. Notable works include The Arab Mind, The Jewish Mind, and The Myth of the Jewish Race (co-authored with his daughter Jennifer P. Wing). NYT
