About Randolph Stow

Julian Randolph Stow (1935-2010) was an Australian novelist and poet born in Geraldton, Western Australia. He gained acclaim for novels like To the Islands (1958, Miles Franklin Award winner), The Merry-Go-Round in the Sea (1965), and Visitants (1979), alongside poetry collections and libretti for operas such as Eight Songs for a Mad King. After teaching at Australian and British universities and working in Papua New Guinea, he settled in England in 1969.
