About Rajiv Joseph

Rajiv Joseph (born 1974) is an American playwright of mixed European and Indian heritage, raised in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Miami University and serving in the Peace Corps in Senegal, he earned an MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and gained prominence with plays exploring identity, race, violence, and language. He was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo (Broadway production starring Robin Williams) and won two Obie Awards for Best New American Play for Guards at the Taj (2016) and Describe the Night (2018), Whiting Foundation.
