About Raffaello Brignetti

Raffaello Brignetti (1921-1978) was an Italian writer born on the island of Giglio and raised on Elba, where his father was a lighthouse keeper. He studied modern Italian literature under Ungaretti, worked as a journalist for major Roman newspapers, and survived German labor camps during World War II; a 1961 car accident left him paralyzed but spurred his most productive literary period. Notable works include Il gabbiano azzurro (1967, Premio Viareggio winner) and La spiaggia d'oro (1971, Premio Strega winner), often exploring maritime themes. Italian
