About R. Carlyle Buley

Roscoe Carlyle Buley (1893–1968) was an American historian born in Georgetown, Indiana. He earned degrees from Indiana University and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin, then taught history at Indiana University from 1925 to 1964, becoming professor emeritus thereafter. His notable works include the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Old Northwest: Pioneer Period 1815–1840 (1950) and The American Life Convention, 1906-1952, which earned the Elizur Wright Award.
