Pierre-Jean Rémy (pen name of Jean-Pierre Angremy) was a French diplomat, novelist, and essayist born in 1937 in Angoulême, France. He studied at elite institutions including Sciences Po, ENA, and as a Fulbright scholar at Brandeis University, before embarking on a distinguished diplomatic career with postings in Hong Kong, Beijing, London, and as France's permanent delegate to UNESCO. His literary career highlights include winning the Prix Renaudot for Le Sac du palais d'été (1971) and the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française for Une ville immortelle (1986); he was elected to the Académie française in 1988.
