Phyllis McGinley

Phyllis McGinley (1905-1978) was an American poet and author best known for her light verse poetry celebrating suburban life, marriage, and domesticity with humor and satire, as well as children's books. Born in Ontario, Oregon, she published numerous poetry collections including A Short Walk from the Station (1951) and Times Three (1960), the latter earning her the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1961—the first for light verse. She also wrote essays and juveniles, contributed to magazines like The New Yorker, and received multiple honorary degrees.
