About Phillip V. Tobias

Phillip Vallentine Tobias (1925–2012) was a South African paleoanthropologist renowned for his excavations at Sterkfontein caves and collaboration with Louis Leakey on identifying and naming Homo habilis, as well as analyzing key hominid fossils like Australopithecus africanus. Born in Durban and educated at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he became Professor of Anatomy and Human Biology succeeding Raymond Dart, he authored over 600 articles and 33 books on human evolution.World Heritage Site, NY Times.
