Peter Hobbs

Peter Hobbs (born 1973) is a British novelist who grew up in Cornwall and North Yorkshire, educated at New College, Oxford, and began writing after a prolonged illness derailed a potential diplomatic career. His notable works include the novels The Short Day Dying (2005) and In the Orchard, the Swallows (2012), and the short story collection I Could Ride All Day in my Cool Blue Train (2006); The Short Day Dying won the Betty Trask Award and was shortlisted for the Whitbread/Costa First Novel Award, John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, and International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. He serves as writer-in-residence for the First Story charity and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
