About Penelope Mortimer

Penelope Ruth Mortimer (1918-1999) was a Welsh-born English novelist, journalist, and biographer best known for her semi-autobiographical novel The Pumpkin Eater (1962), which was adapted into a film by Harold Pinter, and her Whitbread Prize-winning autobiography About Time (1979). Her works often explored upper middle-class life, neuroses, and troubled marriages, influencing feminist fiction of the 1960s.
