Pearl Buck

Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) was an American writer and humanitarian best known for her novel The Good Earth, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 and was the best-selling book in the US in 1931-1932. She spent much of her life in China as the daughter of missionaries, becoming the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938 for her epic descriptions of peasant life in China and biographical masterpieces. Buck was also a prolific advocate for women's rights, racial equality, adoption, and the disabled.
