About Pauline Clarke
Pauline Clarke (1921–2013) was an English children's author best known for her low fantasy novel The Twelve and the Genii (1962), which won the Carnegie Medal, Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, and Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis. She wrote under the pseudonym Helen Clare for younger readers and later as Pauline Hunter Blair for adults, producing works like Warscape while also editing her husband's historical texts. Educated at Oxford, she began her career as a journalist and authored fantasies, historical novels, and family comedies.
