About Paule Constant

Paule Constant is a French novelist born on January 25, 1944, in Gan, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, known for her works exploring colonialism, women's education, and human conditions in exotic locales like Africa and South America. She achieved major literary success with the Prix Goncourt in 1998 for Confidence pour confidence, the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française in 1989 for White Spirit, and other awards including Prix Valery-Larbaud for Ouregano (1980) and Prix Amnesty International for Sucre et secret (2003); notable works also include La Fille du Gobernator (1994) and La bête à chagrin (2007).
