About Octavia E. Butler

Octavia E. Butler (1947-2006) was an acclaimed American science fiction author known for pioneering Afrofuturism and blending speculative fiction with themes of race, power, and survival in works like the Patternist series, Kindred, the Xenogenesis trilogy, and the Parable series (Parable of the Sower, Parable of the Talents). She won multiple Hugo and Nebula Awards, including for "Bloodchild" and "Speech Sounds," and in 1995 became the first science fiction writer to receive a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship.
