About O. O. Sangoyomi
O.O. Sangoyomi is a Nigerian-American author who won the British Fantasy Award for Best Fantasy Novel for Masquerade (2025), her debut novel. Masquerade draws on Yoruba mythology and culture to tell a story of gods, mortals, and the power of storytelling in a richly imagined secondary world inspired by West Africa. Sangoyomi was born in the United States to Nigerian parents and grew up between America and Nigeria. She studied at Vassar College. Masquerade was her first published novel and was immediately recognized as a significant debut in fantasy fiction. Her work is part of a broader wave of Afrofuturism and African mythology-inspired fantasy that has gained significant recognition in the 2020s.
