About Noel Annan

Noel Gilroy Annan, Baron Annan (1916-2000), a British historian, author, and academic administrator, is best known for his biography Leslie Stephen (1951), which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and works like Our Age (1990), Changing Enemies (1995), and The Dons (1999), along with his influential essay "The Intellectual Aristocracy." He served as provost of King's College, Cambridge (1956-1966), provost of University College London (1966-1978), and vice-chancellor of the University of London (1978-1981), while also holding trusteeships at the British Museum and National Gallery.com
