Nobuo Kojima

Nobuo Kojima (1915-2006) was a Japanese writer prominent in the postwar era, best known for his satirical short stories and novels exploring family dynamics and the psychological impacts of World War II defeat, such as The American School (1954, Akutagawa Prize winner) and Embracing Family (1965, Tanizaki Prize winner). He also received the Noma Literary Prize (1982) and Yomiuri Literary Prize (1997), became a Person of Cultural Merit in 1994, and taught English literature at Meiji University while translating major American authors.
