Nikki Grimes

Nikki Grimes (born October 20, 1950, in Harlem, New York) is an acclaimed American author, poet, and illustrator known for her books for children and young adults, including the Coretta Scott King Award-winning Bronx Masquerade (2002), the memoir Ordinary Hazards (Printz and Sibert Honors), and New York Times bestseller Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope. Her numerous honors include the Children's Literature Legacy Award, ALAN Award, Virginia Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award, NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children, and induction into the Black Authors Hall of Fame (2023); she resides in Corona, California.Nikki Grimes official biography, Historically Speaking
