About Nicholas Herring

Nicholas Herring is a Canadian novelist who lives in Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island, where he works as a fisherman and a carpenter. His debut novel, Some Hellish, won the Atwood Gibson Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. He studied English literature at St. Jerome's University and completed an MA in creative writing at the University of Toronto. His writing has appeared in The Puritan and The Fiddlehead. Your Breath in Charcoal, his second novel, was shortlisted for the 2026 Scotiabank Giller Prize.
