About Ángel María de Lera
Ángel María de Lera (1912-1984) was a Spanish novelist born in Baides, Guadalajara. Involved in the Spanish Civil War on the Republican side, he was imprisoned post-war until 1947 before publishing his first novel Los olvidados in 1957. Notable for nearly 20 novels in post-war realism with strong social themes, including Las últimas banderas (1967 Planeta Prize) and Se vende un hombre (1973 Ateneo de Sevilla Prize), and as founder/president of the Association of Writers.
