About Neil Sheehan
Neil Sheehan (1936-2021) was an American journalist and author best known for his Vietnam War coverage, including obtaining the Pentagon Papers for The New York Times, which led to a landmark Supreme Court case affirming press freedom, and his Pulitzer-winning book A Bright Shining Lie about Lt. Col. John Paul Vann and U.S. involvement in Vietnam. That work also earned the National Book Award, cementing his legacy as a chronicler of military history and government deception. His reporting and writing exposed critical truths about the war, earning him numerous accolades including the Pulitzer for Public Service to the Times.
