About Natalie Kusz

Natalie Kusz (born 1962) is an American memoirist whose family moved from Los Angeles to Alaska when she was six years old seeking a freer life off the land. There, she survived a horrific sled dog attack that severely disfigured her face, requiring years of surgeries, an experience central to her acclaimed memoir Road Song (1991). She holds a B.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, has taught at Harvard University and Eastern Washington University, and received awards including the Whiting Award, NEA fellowship, and Bush Foundation fellowship.
