About N. K. Jemisin

N.K. Jemisin is an American science fiction and fantasy author who won three consecutive Hugo Awards for Best Novel—for The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky—making her the first author to win in three consecutive years for a trilogy. She also won the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel for The Stone Sky (2018) and The City We Became (2021). Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Jemisin studied psychology and worked as a career counselor before becoming a full-time writer. The Broken Earth trilogy is set on a continent ravaged by regular geological catastrophes and is celebrated for its use of second-person narration, its engagement with race, oppression, and trauma, and its world-building originality. Jemisin is a prominent voice on racism in the SF/F community and has written extensively about the field's historical exclusions. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
