About Monica Shannon
Monica G. Shannon Wing (1893–1965) was a Canadian-born American children's author best known for her Newbery Medal-winning novel Dobry (1934), which tells the story of a Bulgarian peasant boy aspiring to become a sculptor. She worked at the Los Angeles Public Library and authored whimsical fairy tales like California Fairy Tales (1926) and Tawnymore (1931), drawing inspiration from her life in California and Montana.
