About Mikhail Sholokhov

Mikhail Aleksandrovich Sholokhov (1905-1984) was a Russian novelist best known for his epic works depicting the life of Don Cossacks during the Russian Revolution, Civil War, and collectivization. His masterpiece, And Quiet Flows the Don (1928-1940), earned him the 1965 Nobel Prize in Literature. Born near the Don River, he joined the Bolsheviks young and became a prominent Soviet literary figure.
