About Miguel Torga

Miguel Torga (born Adolfo Correia da Rocha; 1907-1995) was a Portuguese writer and physician, considered one of the greatest Portuguese authors of the 20th century. Born in rural São Martinho de Anta, he studied medicine at the University of Coimbra, practiced as an otolaryngologist, and produced poetry, novels, plays, and a renowned 16-volume diary while facing censorship under the Salazar regime. His works, noted for humanism and naturalism, earned him the Prémio Camões, Montaigne Prize, and multiple Nobel Literature nominations.
