Mieko Kawakami

Mieko Kawakami is a Japanese novelist, poet, and former singer born in Osaka in 1976. She is best known internationally for her novel *Breasts and Eggs* (2019). Her novel *Heaven*, shortlisted for the 2022 International Booker Prize, is a searing examination of bullying and complicity. She began her career as a singer and blogger before turning to fiction.
