About Michiko Yamamoto

Michiko Yamamoto (born December 4, 1936, in Nakano, Tokyo) is a Japanese writer and poet whose debut stories drew from her experiences living in Australia. She achieved early acclaim with the Shinchō Prize for New Writers and the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 1972 for "Betei-san no Niwa" (Betty’s Garden), followed by the Izumi Kyōka Prize in 1993, and her works including "Betty-San" have been translated into English.
