Michel Butor

Michel Butor (1926-2016) was a French writer renowned for his contributions to the nouveau roman movement, pioneering experimental narrative techniques in novels like La Modification (1957), which won the Prix Renaudot, L'Emploi du temps (1956, Prix Fénéon), and Degrés (1960). He later explored essays, poetry, and artist's books, earning the Grand prix de littérature de l'Académie française in 2013 for his oeuvre. His innovative use of structure, second-person narration, and interdisciplinary collaborations redefined modern literature.
