About Michael Kammen

Michael Gedaliah Kammen (1936–2013) was an American historian and Newton C. Farr Professor Emeritus of American History and Culture at Cornell University. Association. His most notable works include People of Paradox: An Inquiry Concerning the Origins of American Civilization (1973), which won the Pulitzer Prize for History, and A Machine That Would Go of Itself: The Constitution in American Culture (1986), which received the Francis Parkman Prize and Henry Adams Prize. House. He also authored influential books on American memory and culture, such as Mystic Chords of Memory (1991), and served as president of the Organization of American Historians (1995–1996).
