About Michael Ignatieff

Michael Grant Ignatieff (born May 12, 1947) is a Canadian author, historian, and former politician who served as leader of the Liberal Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2008 to 2011. His most notable works include The Russian Album (1987, Governor General's Literary Award and Heinemann Prize), Blood and Belonging (1994, Gordon Montador Award and Lionel Gelber Prize), and Scar Tissue (1993, Booker Prize shortlist); he has also received the Orwell Prize (2001), Dan David Prize (2019), and Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences (2024).
