About Max Gladstone

Max Gladstone is an American author of fantasy fiction known for the Craft Sequence, a series of novels set in a secondary world where magic and law overlap in a post-divine capitalist society. He was a Locus Award finalist for Dead Country (2024), the first Craft Wars novel. Born in 1984, Gladstone studied Chinese at Yale University and lived in China for a year. The Craft Sequence, including Three Parts Dead and Full Fathom Five, is praised for its ambitious blend of legal thriller, fantasy, and political economy. Dead Country begins a new trilogy and was praised as a vibrant return to the setting. Gladstone also co-wrote the serialized fantasy This Is How You Lose the Time War with Amal El-Mohtar, which won the Hugo and Nebula awards for Best Novella. He lives in Boston.
