Maurice Genevoix

Maurice Genevoix (1890-1980) was a French author and World War I veteran best known for his realistic war memoirs in the series Ceux de 14, which chronicled the experiences of soldiers, earning widespread acclaim among veterans. He won the prestigious Prix Goncourt for his novel Raboliot (1925), a story of a gamekeeper and poacher set in the Loire Valley, and was elected to the Académie française in 1946, later serving as its permanent secretary. His works also include travel books on Canada and Africa, children's literature, and animal-perspective stories like Rroû, reflecting his love for nature and rural life.
