About Mark Turpin

Mark Turpin is an American poet, son of a Presbyterian minister, who spent over 30 years working as a carpenter building houses before earning a master's degree in poetry from Boston University at age 47. His poems have appeared in prestigious journals including The Paris Review, The Threepenny Review, Ploughshares, and Slate, and have been featured on PBS News Hour and The Writer's Almanac. He received the 1997 Whiting Award and the 2004 Ploughshares John C. Zacharis First Book Award for his collection Hammer, and lives in Berkeley, California.
