Mark E. Neely, Jr.

Mark E. Neely Jr. is an American historian specializing in the U.S. Civil War and Abraham Lincoln, born November 10, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas. He earned his BA and PhD from Yale University and held positions including director of the Lincoln Museum and professor at Saint Louis University and Pennsylvania State University, retiring in 2013. His most notable work, The Fate of Liberty: Abraham Lincoln and Civil Liberties (1991), won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for History and the Bell I.
