About Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896–1953) was an American author best known for her novels depicting rural life in Florida, most notably The Yearling (1938), which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1939 and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. Other major works include South Moon Under (1933), a Pulitzer finalist, Cross Creek (1942), and the O. Henry Award-winning short story "Gal Young 'Un" (1932). She lived much of her life on an orange grove in Cross Creek, Florida, drawing inspiration from the local "cracker" culture and landscape.
