Margarita Engle

Margarita Engle (born September 2, 1951) is a Cuban American poet and author of verse novels for young readers, including the Newbery Honor-winning The Surrender Tree, Pura Belpré Award winner The Poet Slave of Cuba, and memoir Enchanted Air. She served as the Young People's Poet Laureate (2017-2019) and received the NSK Neustadt Prize for Children's Literature in 2019.
