About Margaret Mahy
Margaret Mahy (1936–2012) was a New Zealand author renowned for her children's and young adult books featuring supernatural elements and themes of human relationships and growing up. She wrote over 100 picture books, 40 novels, and 20 short story collections, beginning with her first major success, A Lion in the Meadow (1969). Her major achievements include winning the Carnegie Medal twice for The Haunting (1982) and The Changeover (1984), the Hans Christian Andersen Medal (2006), and appointment to the Order of New Zealand (1993).
